Gulf Weekly Arsenal Ladies hold Seef Dental as Joga hit RCSI for six

THIS season’s GulfWeekly Ladies Football League is still anyone’s for the taking.
Both Arsenal Ladies and Seef Dental had the chance to top the table but neither was able to secure all three points.

Seef scored with a scrappy own goal in the first five minutes, but were only able to hold onto the lead for 25 minutes when a clumsy handball allowed Eleni Tsappis to convert from the spot.

Both teams pushed hard for a winner but neither could make the breakthrough amid determined midfield tackling and tough defending. A hard-earned draw proved to be a fair result in the end.

In the other fixture last Wednesday, Joga won convincingly against RCSI. However, although Joga were deserving winners, RCSI may feel the score-line was on the harsh side.

The game was goalless with only two minutes remaining on the clock in the first half.
In a similar twist to the night’s other game, a handball in the area allowed Joga’s Eman Ebrahim to hammer home the penalty.

Soon after that Joga hit RCSI with a quick-fire double from new striker Liyla Sahkar.
After the break RCSI’s determined players managed to pull themselves back into the game thanks to a well-worked goal finished off by Dana Alassi.

However, yet another handball in the box helped put the game beyond reach for RCSI, with Liyla this time slotting the ball away to complete her hat-trick.

Following that setback, Joga hit RCSI with another quick-fire double with goals from Ashwaq Ebrahim and Alaa Drazi sealing Joga’s first win of Season 11, 6-1.

* It is derby day for Arsenal at teatime this evening with both the soccer school’s teams meeting for the first time this season. Last time they met Arsenal U21s caused an upset beating the senior ladies 4-2. But with both teams facing selection problems due to injury and international call-ups this game is surely as even as it has ever been.
