Strike it clean

When the club head strikes the ground first before the ball, the term is hitting it ‘fat’, resulting in a poor strike and a lack of distance.

The solution is to shift the lower point of the downswing further forward. You need to feel that the shaft and bodyweight are more forward at impact than they were at address.

Try this practice drill to improve your contact:
On the practice tee place a scorecard a couple of inches behind the ball and secure it to the ground with a tee peg in each corner.

As you swing down into impact, try to miss the card and contact the ball first. A great drill for pure crisp strikes!
