With the warmer weather making the golf course play firmer, I am reminded of my early days in golf, playing traditional hard ground links courses back in the UK.
All good players adapt to the conditions and a favourite shot from close to the green was to run it up with the putter.
Provided there is no major obstacle such as a bunker, thick rough, etc, using a putter guarantees a reasonable contact and is the safe option compared to a chip/lob shot, where there is a higher risk of duffed shots.
Next time you are faced with a shot from 20 yards in, try a putter, be creative and find the easiest way to get the ball in the hole!
