Depending on your mood in the coming months you could be rockin’ an ’80s Bananarama wardrobe, making a clandestine phone call in ‘geek chic’, sitting prim and proper in ‘Victorian vesture’ or hitting it hard with ‘punk panoply’. Your choice really!

Here are some trends to look out for this autumn/winter 2015:
Geek Chic

A: Go worldly intellect and wear your Oxfords with a graphic tee, skinny jeans and a blazer. Pair a thin tie with a button down, pleated skirt with knee-high socks and loafers.

Key pieces: an argyle cardigan or socks, popular nerdy frames.

B: Channel Marot Tenenbaum of the 2001 film The Royal Tenenbaums with a brown mink coat, Lacoste tennis dress and penny loafers. There were many versions on the runway but Gucci played this well with structured tweed, chunky black loafers, prim pussy bows and wide-brimmed glasses.

Key pieces: Pleated skirts, pussy-bow blouses, oxfords, faux fur and retro florals.

Modernist Muse

This look is futuristic, galactic and out of this world. Use bold, clean lines with wonderfully-weird colour matching and optical prints. Try metallic elements and shapes with contemporary fabrics.

Key pieces: Bold and bright graphic pieces with polo-style necks, crazy optical shapes with extreme fabrics and ankle-sock boots.

Neo-Victorian Vixon

The 19th Century hit the runways with Victorian romance. Ruffles on the cuffs and necklines, lace, tulle and intricate embroidery details cascaded down to a full length using feminine fabrics that dusted the floor with a modern moody palette. Alberta Ferretti showcased a sheer black lace dress that gathered at the neck that looked Victorian with a touch of Goth.

Key pieces: Tailored detailed lace, gloves, lace-up boots, chokers and blood red lips with a dark, smoky eye.

Haute Punk

This look is fashion-y without sacrificing style. A mix of tartan and lux fabric, pink tulle, black vinyl, leather, slashed pants, mini-skirts, ripped tights and studs. The idea is to take the edge off of ‘punk’ with the girly details.

Key pieces: Pair a band T-shirt with short flirty leather mini with glam heels and metal accessories. Don’t forget the moto jacket.

Great 1980s

You can incorporate this look without looking too costume-y if you pair neon accessories with neutral colours like grey, camel and navy. Try an off-the-shoulder dress that is simple and fitted. Use bright neon colours for accessories, acid wash jeans with a white T-shirt and pair with geometric earrings. Balmain and Saint Laurent used early ’80s looks in their shows with mini prom skirts and ruffles.

Key pieces: White heels, reflective shades, denim on denim, trouser suits, high-shine fabrics, chunky heels, wide-brimmed black hat.

Team Tweed

Chanel is the champ of this iconic boucle suit and this season Karl Lagerfeld cat-walked a feminine feel with blocked heels.

Marc Jacob’s version this season had stream-lined jackets with midi-skirts. Max Mara used Marilyn Monroe’s iconic beach shot as his influence and used a palette of camel, sea green and various pastel colours and loafers.

Key pieces: The more lux the fabric the better paired with long gloves and boxy hand-bags. These timeless matching suit sets are worth the purchase.

1970s never-ending summer

Let’s face it, we do not want boho to go. The flared trouser should replace the skinny for this look with a billowy peasant blouse and skinny scarf. Opt for earth tones, bright patterns and prints, fringe, suede, matchy-matchy sets, turtle necks, pants suits, patch-work folky pieces with plat-form heals. The run-way echoed patches of silk, velvet with a collage of boho. Lanvin used prints and fringe in a texture explosion and Chloe used suede and patchwork knits. Anne Sui used floral prairie dresses with fringe and capes.

Keypiece: The poncho and a pair of flares and wedges.

Car Wash Skirts

This is happening ladies and it gives your legs a longer, feminine flattering look without being too revealing. It suits any body shape and is a rising trend. The idea is an offshoot of the fringe with wider panels. Christian Dior showcased it in plaid and Oscar de la Renta in a black lace number.

Natural Traveller

Whether you camouflage into the jungle, wander through an enchanted forest, hang out with the natives of the north or linger in the ancient orient, Mother Nature can help you style your wardrobe. Luis Vuitton and Stella McCartney showcased large arctic white fur coats while others catwalked ethnic aesthetics, faux fur shearling, leather, winter floral blooms and various animal and eastern prints. Channel the boho traveller we all want to relate to.

Key pieces: Fur stole with your evening wear, flowy ethereal pieces, folksy print dresses, fringe leather, Asian prints, suede thigh high boots, textured sweaters, cross body bags and sable or camel shearling coats.
