Sometimes, the most amateurish productions are simply the best. You can have as many rehearsals as you like, have endless re-runs until the machine is better-oiled than any can of WD40 could ever achieve, but it’ll never match the pure comedy of an event being handled on the fly.

And so it proved at the Bahrain Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (BSPCA)’s James Bond-themed fashion show which featured a riotous medley of costumes, props and famous musical numbers from more than 50 years of 007.

Cues were missed and children excitedly ran on the catwalk in their helicopter and parachute costumes well before the opening strains of Live And Let Die and The Man With The Golden Gun which were supposed to greet them, but it all added to the charm.

Massive props to all the men and women who had the confidence to take part and raise significant funds for a charitable cause. Particular praise must go to the man painted head-to-toe in gold, with only a Tarzan-esque loincloth to cover the shred of dignity he had left, who masqueraded up and down the stage with enthusiastic vigour. My (razor-trimmed) bowler hat goes off to you, sir!

Congratulations to Liz Reid for directing the show and making a vast portion of the hilarious props which left the audience shaken and stirred. What a wonderful evening!
