IT’S time to spread the happiness and take the mystery out of those bright egg-shape sponges you see peeking out of your handbag, sprawled out on make-up counters in ladies rooms and for sale at all local beauty shops.

It is the ‘bodacious’ beauty blender or as Inglot calls it the ‘Pro Blending Sponge’ and there is something gorgeous that happens when you apply your foundation with it, because it leaves a sheer, but buildable coverage and is much faster than a foundation brush.

This multi-purpose sponge is ideal for blending and is carefully shaped for precise application of foundation. However, it just wasn’t working for me, until I read the instructions, of course... D’oh! (I skip instructions ... I admit it).

The pointed end of the sponge can be used to cover blemishes, spots, or hard-to-reach areas of the face, while the rounded area should be used for larger portions. But how does it actually work?

This product features an open cell structure that fills with small amounts of water when wet. This allows the sponge to be full so that the make-up sits on top rather than being absorbed, allowing for less product use every time.

Use with any liquid or creamy product to achieve a perfect complexion with ease. My personal issue was that I did not wet the sponge at all. I wasted expensive products and didn’t get the advantage. It is important to use it properly.

Here are the correct instructions:

  • Wet the sponge first. So many girls have used it dry and the foundation doesn’t go on evenly or smoothly.
  • Squeeze it underwater 10 times until it grows and grows and grows. That’s when you know it’s ready.
  • Wrap it in a towel and squeeze it to get rid of excess water to avoid making the foundation too watery.
  • You have to dip the sponge in the foundation in the palm of your hand and sweep it back and forth to thin it out before it goes near your face. This helps with an even application.
  • If you find you need to give more attention after initial application, use the tip of the sponge in a stippling (pressing) motion holding the sponge at a 90-degree angle.
  • Under eye area: use the side of the tip in a rolling motion.
  • Cleaning: Wet the sponge and a bar of glycerine soap under water then rub the sponge against the soap back and forth, then pinch and drag your thumb across the sponge and watch all of the foundation come out.
  • The sponges take more than 24 hours to dry so make sure you have a few on hand at a time. Watch out for mildew and bacteria growth. You will need to change it every three months.

Inglot sells these miracle make-up tools for BD7.500. Currently there is an offer running – ‘Buy 3 Get 1 Free (item with the lowest price)’

Members of the American Women’s Association (AWA) dazzled at the group’s annual fashion show in flouncy gowns, colourful jalabiyas and cool casual clothes.

The event was staged at the Mövenpick Hotel Bahrain and featured 14 models of different ages and backgrounds, stepping out in designs from Rocco to Betty Barclay.

AWA president, Diana Raia, said: “The show was just like how Iman Fouad, the co-chair and choreographer, envisioned it … spectacular!

“The stage, the tables and the centre pieces were beautifully decorated by Events À La Carte planner, Rima Chehab. The models were fabulously made up by Faces and hair by Jacques Dessange Health Club Spa & Salon. It was a great event to celebrate these wonderful women and also enjoy a delicious Thanksgiving lunch.”
