A world-renowned fashion designer, Oscar de la Renta is a name that has been celebrated by women around the world.

His creative vision influenced the world of fashion and his dresses adorned first ladies, royalty and red carpets during a career that spanned over 50 years.

From the Caribbean island of Dominican Republic where he was born, Oscar landed in Spain for a destiny of fame that started with painting studies at the Academy of San Fernando in Madrid. Enticed instead by the world of fashion, he began sketching for fashion houses, landing an apprenticeship with Spain’s most revered couturier, Cristobal Balenciaga.

After working as a couture assistant at Lanvin-Castillo in Paris and haute couture designer for Elizabeth Arden in New York, Oscar launched his own label in 1965 to widespread success.

His ready-to-wear line gained immediate international acclaim, distinguished by its striking colours and prints. Gipsy and Russian-inspired, his style recalled the tropical vegetation and the vibrant colour palettes of his Dominican island.

He was in no time known for his cosmopolitan sophisticated signature, representing the casual luxurious woman through distinctly modern, yet romantic and feminine gowns.

In 2006 Oscar de la Renta Bridal Collection saw the light, offering a line distinguished by its luxurious fabrics, meticulous details, and beautiful embroideries and adornments.

His wedding dresses were chosen by countless of celebrity brides, from film stars to royalty, among which was Mrs Clooney - Alam Alamuddin, a former legal adviser to His Majesty King Hamad.

The Beirut-born barrister specialises in human rights law, extradition and criminal law and worked with Bahrain’s government in connection with the Bahrain Independent Commission of Inquiry which was tasked with looking into incidents that occurred during 2011 unrest. She later took part in a five-day training programme at the Crowne Plaza Hotel designed to help professionals in Bahrain’s judicial system achieve international standards in human rights law.

Other well-known names that have chosen the designer when tying the knot include Kate Bosworth, Jenna Bush, Amanda Peet, Allison Williams and Chelsea Clinton.

Opening the recent New York bridal show, Oscar de la Renta’s 2017 collection radiated breathtaking elegance highlighted through feminine lace, silk organza and delicate floral embroidery.

Models also presented his Spring/Summer 2017 collection during New York Fashion Week.

His latest creations and bridal collections are exclusively available at Esposa shops across the Middle East.
