Gulf Weekly Motor sport fans flock to kingdom and boost hotel revenues by BD3.7m

Hotel revenues reached BD3.7m during the Formula One weekend, with 12,000 hotel rooms booked during the event and total occupancy rate of five star hotels reaching up to 89 per cent, the Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority (BTEA) revealed.

Tourism leaders hope the event’s success will further boost the economy and help attract more visitors to the kingdom as a result of the positive global coverage.

Shaikh Khaled bin Humood Al Khalifa, the BTEA’s CEO, pictured left, said: “We are pleased with the positive results achieved by the tourism sector. We hope that it brings further success, reflecting the kingdom’s positive image internationally and contributing to the development of the local economy.

“Our strategy is focused on strengthening Bahrain’s position as a destination that is able to host leading international events.”
