The Bahrain Rugby Football Club (BRFC) has begun a strong fund-raising programme with a mission to help buy rugby equipment and playing kits for school children in cash-strapped areas of Colombo, Sri Lanka.

Members aim to boost the initiative by putting their best foot forward on Friday. They will embark on a 25km sponsored walk from the former rugby club’s location in Muharraq to their current home in Janabiya.

The intrepid walkers will be dropped at the coastal location and will embark on their long adventure back across the island starting between 6am and 7am.

Over the past two years, as reported in GulfWeekly, the BRFC have built up a special relationship with Sri Lanka, second only to Japan in embracing rugby in Asia. The 2016 and 2017 Veteran Team Tours, and a friendly match between the BRFC 1st team and their number one club side, Kandy, have been some of the highlights so far.

During their last visit, BRFC and its members provided rugby equipment and training sessions for some of the disadvantaged schools in Colombo and surrounding areas, as well as a local orphanage. Some of these schools went on to win in their age groups in Sri Lankan divisions.

The BRFC is eager to continue this legacy, start an annual tour to the country and foster an even stronger bond between the two nations.
