Gulf Weekly RIP Tim Avicii Bergling, the man who made us dance

Tributes have been pouring in for Avicii, real name Tim Bergling, after the superstar DJ was found dead in Muscat, Oman last Friday afternoon.

The Swede, only 28, headlined the 2016 Formula 1 Grand Prix at the Bahrain International Circuit and played in front of thousands of adoring fans, many of whom took to social media to express their sadness at his passing.

It turned out to be one of his last ever live performances, having announced his impending retirement just days before the show.

Avicii had a history of excessive partying, which caused a severe case of pancreatitis and he had both his appendix and gallbladder removed. The cause of death has yet to be revealed, but Omani police have ruled out foul play.

His performance at the BIC drew significant praise, and is often cited as one of the best Formula 1 concerts in the 14-year history of the race.

GulfWeekly reporter reviewed the concert and reported afterwards: ‘Avicii played a mixture of his smash hits such as Levels and Wake Me Up and a few deeper cuts from his catalogue, but all were greeted with reckless abandonment by the crowd who continued to dance and jump around regardless of familiarity.

‘The disappointed groans which greeted the finale were telling; Avicii was a very popular choice and truly brought the house down’.

Many attendees have taken to social media to share their memories of the show, along with expressing their sadness and condolences. One said: “I can’t believe this is true. He’s so young and had so much more music to make. I’ll never forget watching him and having the time of my life a couple of years ago, it’s one of my favourite memories. RIP.”
