The biggest-ever Annual Dilly Open took place on Friday at the Royal Golf Club with more prizes, sponsorship and people participating.

The day started with good banter at the Dilmun Club and moved on to the RGC’s challenging Colin Montgomerie-designed course in Riffa Views and a staggered start for the 43 players.

The event, as always, was highly competitive with moments of brilliance, and the occasional disastrous slice of luck.

This year the organiser of the Dilly Open, Dave Orrell, was no longer the bridesmaid. Having come second in the previous three tournaments, he finally enjoyed his well-deserved moment of glory in the sun to become the popular expat members club’s Open Champion scoring 41 points in a Stableford competition.

The team competition was won by ‘Stevie’s Ham Shankers featuring (Steve Mclean, Ian Robson, Alan Gallagher and Dave Allison.)

Longest Drive on the 8th hole and Closet to the Pin on the 12th were won by Chris ‘the bandit’ Thomas, with ‘Closest to Steve’ (a photograph of the club’s GM Stephen Chartres) on the 17th being won by Ian Robson.

“The Dilly Open wouldn’t be possible without the help of the sponsors,” said Chartres. “This year’s sponsors were Shutdown Maintenance Services, Reza Hygiene, Delmon Readymix, Enerserv and, of course, the Dilmun Club.”

After the on course action it was time to say ‘Hello Again’ to the club’s premises in Saar for an awards presentation, BBQ and entertainment by a Neil Diamond tribute act.
