Rugby legend Adam Jones thrilled his fans in Bahrain and left a lasting impression on the kingdom’s young players after an action-packed weekend at the Bahrain Rugby Football Club.

Jones, 37, was the guest speaker at a dinner on Friday night, and the Welshman also spent his time coaching the youth rugby team and taking part in a tournament to raise funds for the Cancer Warriors.

Rugby club chairman Mike Cunningham was thrilled with the weekend’s events. He said: “It was fantastic to have a player like Adam Jones come to Bahrain and take part in a question and answer session with the packed crowd who came. Not only that, he imparted his knowledge on our young players, who will have this invaluable experience to take forward with them.”

During the day, Jones played for the Bahrain Cancer Warriors, alongside former Irish international Ronnie Carey, in a three-team round-robin tournament, also featuring a team from Kohbar and the Bahrain ‘Not-So-Oldies’, comprised of Bahrain first team players and members of the veteran Golden Oldies team.

The Not-So-Oldies emerged victorious, winning both of their 30-minute games narrowly.

Jones currently plays for Aviva Premiership side Harlequins and has made 100 international appearances, 95 for Wales and five for the British and Irish Lions. The after-dinner event included a speech from testicular cancer survivor Andrew Bardsley before Steve Harrison interviewed Jones about his career. Funds raised will help cancer sufferers who require treatment and support their families.
