Philipp Plein’s Resort 2019 collection is full of attitude with a touch of glam-rock. The German designer launched his collection at his private palace on the Cote d’Azur, ‘La Jungle Du Roi’s surrounded by fashion lovers, celebrities and his friends.

At the entrance, on a wall of white roses, the word ‘PHILIPP PLEIN DYNASTY’ was framed by two giant ‘Ziggy Stardust’ lightning bolts and the runway was created in gold glitter. David Bowie’s Rebel Rebel started pounding through the speakers and the models dressed to impress began walking the runway in style.

This season Plein’s woman is inspired by the iconic 1980s TV drama Dynasty exuding all the brazen attitude of Alexis Colby with bright-coloured 70’s style hair and glitter nails. The girls sparkled in sequin suits, palm-leaf embellished bombers and hoodies, studded denim mini-skirts, skin-tight leather trousers, carrying a transparent PVC bag and wearing metallic skull stilettoes.

The men were equally as bold dressed in dollar-bill print shirts and suits; turquoise tailored python biker jackets, sequined shawl-collared tuxedos and embellished cowboy hats.

The eveningwear was sophisticated and elegant with a capsule collection of ultra-luxe gowns for exclusive red-carpet events staying true to the Rock ’n’ Roll spirit of Plein. There were leopard printed gowns, python-style sequinning, a biker jacket ball gown along with flowing chiffon and lace bodices.

The collection is also a reflection of the natural surroundings of the Plein villa featuring banana trees and exotic plants. The collection has a softer, more romantic side with floral patterns decorating denim dungarees, military-style jackets and silk flared trousers. Looser shapes and fuller volumes give a fluid, relaxed 1970s feel, revealing a quieter confidence.

FOOTNOTE: A top court has defended French fashion designer Christian Louboutin’s claim to trademark red soled high-heel shoes.

The European Court of Justice ruled that Van Haren, a Dutch company that sold similar shoes, had infringed the trade mark.

The court said that it did not matter that its shoes were different in shape. It said the registration of the trademark ‘sought solely to protect that application of a colour to a specific part of that product’.

Louboutin said in a statement that it warmly ‘welcomes’ the judgment.
