C5 Accelerate, Policy Hack recently hosted Shaikh Mohammed bin Essa Al Khalifa, chairman of labour fund Tamkeen, and the political and economic advisor to HRH Crown Prince’s Court, for a ‘fireside chat’ as part of its ‘Policy Hack’ series.
The session started with an open discussion on Tamkeen’s 2018-2020 strategy and how it aligns with global trends and the importance of capitalising on the rise of tech and tech convergence.
Shaikh Mohammed said: “This upcoming period of Tamkeen’s plans is centred on expanding the support given to grow the Bahraini ecosystem by introducing further projects and services to better cater to evolving market needs.”
He also referred to the launch of Tamkeen’s Cloud Computing Scheme that aims to support the provision of Amazon Web Services (AWS) new business solutions for IT operations.
C5 Accelerate is a London, Bahrain and Washington DC-based technology investment firm. Its mission is to accelerate best-of-breed start-ups to meet the growth opportunities created by the geographic expansion of AWS, the world’s leading cloud computing platform.
It currently runs accelerators in Bahrain and Washington DC. In addition to the Cloud10 Scalerator, C5 has established a cybersecurity lab in Bahrain and has been actively involved in the government’s ‘Cloud First’ policy by helping migrate government data to the AWS cloud.
Hadyah Fathalla, Executive Director of C5 Accelerate, described Shaikh Mohammed as ‘a great supporter of the ecosystem and C5’.
The Policy Hack Series was launched in collaboration with Tamkeen in November 2017 as a platform for policy thought leadership, debate and discussion, to strengthen the ties between Bahrain’s influential entities and the startup ecosystem, and to discuss strategies that impact the tech innovation and entrepreneurial landscape and ecosystem and foster economic diversification and sustainable development.
