SHAIKH Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa won the 2018 Ironman World Championship title in his category with a personal best time in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii.

Shaikh Nasser finished first in the executive division, 250th out of 2,379 competitors in nine hours, 19 minutes and 10 seconds and celebrated another Bahrain 13 Endurance Team success when Daniela Ryf claimed her fourth consecutive Ironman World Championship women’s title. 

“I still can’t believe I’m a world champion in my category,” said Shaikh Nasser, Representative of His Majesty for Charity Works and Youth Affairs, chairman of Supreme Council for Youth and Sports (SCYS) and president of Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC).

Ryf finished in eight hours 26 minutes and 16 seconds which included a new bike course record and also a new Ironman world record. The Swiss athlete broke the Hawaii course record by 20 minutes and surpassed Chrissie Wellington’s Ironman South Africa time by 17 minutes to become the world’s fastest woman in an Ironman race.

The Bahrain Endurance Team, set up by Shaikh Nasser, is made up of an all-star stable of athletes and competes for key long-distance triathlon titles to promote a ‘culture of health and wellness and endurance sporting excellence’.
