Renowned Bahraini band Majaz is set to dazzle music lovers in Morocco this weekend at the Visa for Music (VFM) professional music market and festival.

The quartet, including Hameed AlSaeed on guitar and backing vocals, percussionist Abdulla Faisal, Salah Sharakhat on bass and backing vocals as well as Jehad Al Halal on cello and guitar, has previously played shows at The Nest, Spring of Culture, Desert Beats and the coveted Arab Alternative Music Festival.

Abdulla said: “We are excited to visit and play in Morocco, first off, because it’s a beautiful country. Also, the VFM is a great place for us to learn more about the business of music and network with professionals in the industry. Plus, we get to perform at the top venue in the country and hang out with bands from all over Africa!”

Their song, Shuruppak, which means “the place of utmost being” in Sumerian, will see its first international debut outside of the kingdom. With this song, they are expanding their repartee with a contemporary spacey sound, experimenting with new effects.

The VFM, which started in 2013, showcases 40 Middle-Eastern and African artists at an international level, out of a pool of more than 1,000 applications from across the region.

Salah said: “We are the first band from Bahrain and the GCC ever to be performing at this event, so we are excited to represent the kingdom on the international scene.”
