New economic opportunities were explored and existing ties renewed during Glomat, the first-ever virtual Thai-Bahrain business matching convention, writes Naman Arora.

The event, which took place last Thursday in Bangkok, with virtual attendees from across the world tuning in, drew more than 50 well-known businesses.

Thanis Na Songkhla, Thai ambassador to Bahrain, inaugurated the session with a speech, saying: “The virtual business matching is currently emerging as a new type of supporting business continuity in a new-normal way between traders around the world amid the ongoing Covid-19 situation and all the travel restrictions.

“I am certain that this event will provide Thai companies who want to expand their sales and products overseas, especially those in SMEs, an opportunity to come in contact with potential traders in Bahrain and develop networks with ease.

“The Royal Thai Embassy stands ready to support Thai business owners. The success of our small firms and entrepreneurs is also the Embassy’s interest since it represents the success of our economy as whole.”

Glomat is the latest in a series of efforts by the embassy and Thai businesses to enhance business ties between the two kingdoms, including the opening of Thai Wara, a distributor of small and micro-sized products from Thailand, in Adliya.

The ambassador also joined Shaikh Daij bin Isa Al Khalifa, the chairman of ASEAN Bahrain Council (ABC) and Sudsiam Poy, president of the Thai Club and the chief executive of Sudsiam Consultancy and Siam Pavilion Services, in a visit to the upcoming Thai Mart project near Dragon City Mall.

Sudsiam, who organised the virtual summit via the Vixma platform, said: “Despite the negative impact of Covid-19 on business around the world, the Thai community in Bahrain and business leaders from Thailand continue to bolster economic ties with Bahrain.

“This would not have been possible without support from Mr Songkhla, Bahrain’s ambassador to Thailand Ahmed Al Hajri, the Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry and other government agencies from the two countries.”
