Gulf Weekly Golden Goose

The fish in the lake weren’t biting, so instead Bernard Elrik watched the geese flying south.

He smiled wanly, reminded that his days as CEO at Flu-Gone Pharmaceuticals were numbered — for an infected lab animal was missing.
Flu-Gone Pharmaceuticals had developed and stockpiled bird flu vaccine, but the expected pandemic hadn’t materialised. Flu-Gone shares had plummeted. Consequently, share options offered as severance packages were virtually worthless.
And then the diseased Canada goose vanished.
Elrik secured his fishing rod, trudged to his car, and opened the trunk. His original plan — the company being in such dire straits — had involved a length of tubing secured to the car’s exhaust pipe.
However, plans had changed. Elrik pushed the tubing aside, took the lab cage from the trunk, and released the infected goose. Later today he would buy up those cheap Flu-Gone shares. Until then he would watch the bird migrations.
