NEVER underestimate the power of your nails. Our nails can tell so much about our overall health as any stress, or illness, you have experienced will affect the general appearance of the nails.
We should maintain our nails from the inside out through our diet habits as well as regularly having manicures and using at-home creams to keep them in great condition. I went to see a Chinese herbalist once and he asked to look at my hands, nails and tongue. He then suggested I needed to incorporate different herbs in a tea mixture into my daily routine and I have to admit it did me wonders at the time. If, like me, you suffer from dry nails and cuticles, try heating up a little olive oil and soaking your nails for at least 10 minutes whilst watching your favourite TV programme. Also, take supplements of starflower or evening primrose as these contain essential fatty acids will boost the condition of your nails over time – not over night I may add. I find a French manicure more pleasing to the eye than solid colour nail varnishes. I have seen a lot of celebrities wearing black nail varnish and I have to say I am not a fan of that look. To me it gives the image of ‘I can’t be bothered, my nails are in a state and dirty so hey, let’s paint them black’. I look forward to that trend fading out. In the coming months it will be neon nail time – all those lovely 80s colours we loved to hate first time around will be coming to town in the shape of nail varnishes, bags, shoes and clothes. Look out for fuchsia, hot pink, peach and magenta to name but a few, you will find these colours in every brand from Dior to Jessica – no matter what your budget. So it looks like we will all have bright nails for the summer. (Hope they don’t glow in the dark!) Luxury indulge: Christian Dior Mains Protective hand cream vs Bargain purchase: Nivea Age-Defying Q10 hand-cream It’s a tough choice as both the hand creams have excellent properties. Christian Dior hand cream has a SPF 8 included, which is a real bonus for the climate here. Nivea’s cheap and cheerful hand cream is a firm favourite and contains UVA and UVB filters as well as Q10.
