THE last of 13 bridges at the Durrat Al Bahrain project has been completed 14 months ahead of schedule, it was revealed.
The BD55 million bridge project was executed by Nass Contracting Company and accomplished in a total of 1.5m man-hours, without a single lost-time accident, company chief executive Ghazi Nass said. “The 13 bridges, designed by Atkins, are a total length of 3.2km and had been awarded to Nass Contracting and Murray and Roberts joint venture in September 2005,” he said. “The whole project was due for completion only in September 2008, but it has already been accomplished.” He said the last of the bridges connects the mainland to the centre of the island. Sarens–Nass supplied two large crawler cranes, together with a multi-wheeled trailer for transportation of the units, to the bridge sites. “Other Nass Corporation companies involved in the project included Delmon Readymix Concrete, Nass Asphalt and Nass Electrical. “All of them have effectively participated in the project and played a major and significant role in completing it earlier than scheduled,” he added. He said Nass Contracting, in a joint venture with Great Lakes Dredge and Dock Company, has also successfully completed a project for the construction of the islands and rock structure works for the resort. “In addition, we are currently working on the infrastructure packages for three petals and four atoll islands with Burhan International of Kuwait.”
