Gulf Weekly Krazy Kevin's Kids Klub

Hello everybody and how’re you doing?  This week I’ve been out and about all over the place, and the only thing people seem to be talking about is where they are going away on their holidays.

Nice for them I guess, except that I’m not going anywhere other than to work everyday.
Last week I talked about things that you kids can do if (like me) you’re staying in Bahrain for the summer.
Some friends read what I wrote and came up with another great idea for older kids with nothing to do over the summer; how about redecorating your room?
To start with, you could make your mum really happy by throwing out some of your junk. Then make someone-else happy and donate or recycle any good stuff you no longer use. Next, make yourself happy by finding some inspiration (maybe from a magazine or the cover of your favourite music CD), then getting some paint, paper or fabric and getting on with it.
It’ll be great fun and everyone will be happy.
If, however, you’re staying in Bahrain and going on a summer camp you’ll probably be too exhausted for any of that.
There are just so many summer camps to choose from. My little Hannah is going to one at the Budaiya Pre-School.
It has a good reputation and we’ve chosen it primarily because many of her friends are also going there.
It’s very important to have some friends around, I think. Her friends went there last year and had lots of fun, and their recommendations mean a lot to me.
Whilst I was checking out the various camps, I met up with my old mate Daniel Chamberlain, who is the Beach Club Manager at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel and he told me all about the camp that is happening there for slightly older kids.
Daniel said that there will of be loads of water-sports like snorkelling, swimming, fishing, surfing, pedalos, laser fun boats and canoes.  ut if you want to stay on dry land there is also a football camp for boys and even one for girls (do you know that football is apparently the biggest girls’ participation sport in the world?) I didn’t, but it’s nice to know! There will also be tennis and squash.
If that’s not enough, for the artistically-minded there will be talent shows, arts and crafts, belly dancing (Daniel is good at that) and one of the things I loved when I was younger – overnight camps.
I have such fond memories of camping. Once, when I was in the boy scouts we camped overnight in a large field.
My sleeping bag was by the tent entrance and during the night I kept feeling a nudge as I slept. Being dark I couldn’t see a thing until the sun started to come up, when I felt a large wet thing going across my face.
I opened my eyes and there standing over me, was the largest brown cow that I had ever seen busily licking her lips and getting ready for another slurp. Aarrghh!  Anyway, back to Daniel, who by the way is not that great a belly dancer  … unlike me who can be called the five bellies dancer!
OK, I’ve given Dan enough of a ribbing now, so I guess I can mention that for those who don't know it; the Ritz-Carlton also offers exclusive boat tours around Bahrain, which includes, dolphin, hidden island trips, plus some of the best fishing trips in Bahrain. Not that I’ve been fishing, but I am considering it if someone else will do the wiggly worm bit and also the cleaning and gutting bit.
This week was busy for me and as usual I had my weekly golf game at Riffa Golf Club with the Gulf Cellar gang.
The poor person who drew the short straw and had to play with me was Bill Jeffries. We started off disastrously with a 10 on the first hole and progressed into amazing mediocrity.
I was rubbish, but I suppose it gets me out of the house.  Ha! Fingers crossed for my next journey on the golf course.
What’s that famous song Things can only get better.  In my case I think that it’s probably true.
Keep Happy Campers..!
