Fashion is rarely egalitarian, especially when it comes to models, so it was a breath of fresh air to see plus-size women strutting down the catwalk at the weekend.

The Splash Summer Collection fashion show held at Marina Mall showcased this season’s top looks, with plenty of bright colours, modern designs and natural fabrics… for women of all sizes.
Organiser, Sarva Velamuri said: “There are many in-house brands with designs ranging across casual wear, fashion wear and plus size women.”
Waifs and more voluptuous models shared the catwalk proving that less isn’t always more.
The show was a far cry from the fashion industry’s familiar use of stick-thin catwalk strutters and instead, fashions for teens, men and women was showcased by healthy-sized models.
Splash, which is a leading fashion retailer in the Middle East with 55 stores in the region, has a large range of reasonably-priced international brands.
Anthony Selvaraj, brand m,anager of Bossini, said: “This is a purely summer collection. It’s vibrant and playful with lots of linen and light-weight fabrics.”
Splash is certainly doing something right: last year it entered the Forbes Arabia ‘Top 40 Arab Brands’ list.
