Gulf Weekly New Riffa Views golf course taking shape

The new golf course currently under construction at Riffa Views is taking shape nicely with six of the holes in the final stage of being shaped and almost ready for planting.

The 18-hole championship course has been designed by golfing legend Colin Montgomerie and is expected to open next April.
It will form the centrepiece of Riffa Views, a residential community consisting of over 900 luxury housing units in three signature estates along with commercial facilities, an international school, a mosque and many other amenities.
“Holes 4, 5, 6 and 7 are progressing as per our schedule,” explained Martin Champion, the golf course construction manager.
“In addition, holes 1, 2, 9 and 13 through to 16 are in the final stages of shaping. The new turf we will be using to grass the course, Paspalum Sea Isle Supreme, is growing extremely well in our first turf nursery and we expect to make our first harvest of that grass to cover the first six holes in the coming weeks.
“We are also in the process of setting up an additional turf nursery in order to keep up with the pace of hole completion.”
Preview of Hole 5
The new 5th hole at Riffa Views is a classic risk / reward hole. The 375-yard, par 4, when played downwind will allow the longer hitting golfer a chance of driving the green and setting up an eagle chance.
The reward is obvious but the risk is high – if the drive is not perfect, a large wadi left and short will be there to gather up stray drives.
Players choosing to play the hole more conservatively will have to position their lay up carefully in order to gain the best line of approach.
Laying up means that the approach shot must be played over a deep wadi valley.
