Aubergines with noses, cucumbers shaped like the Loch Ness monster, carrots that look like body parts and turnips shaped like deities. But a potato that looks like a duck?
When three 18-year old students from Isa Town popped into a cold store near the Manama police fort recently, they were astonished to find a potato in the perfect shape of a duck sitting in the vegetable section.
"We saw this amazing potato that looked just like a duck and we were so surprised, we thought we had found something really special so we bought it for 400 fils," explained Yusuf Abdul Rashdan, a student at AMA International University.
His friend, Ahmed Faisal Rashdan who also studies at AMA International said: "I had never seen anything like it before, it made me laugh, and my family thought it was the strangest potato they had ever seen!"
"I've seen funny shaped vegetables in the news before, but never one that is so well-formed. God can make everything," added Saeed Ahmed Almosawi who studies at Dilmun University.
Since the trio discovered the duck-shaped potato a few weeks ago, it has been sitting in pride of place in Yusuf's sitting rooms.
But Yusuf added: "We'll keep it as an ornament but if someone wants to buy it we would consider selling it!"
