Bahrain Bay, the $2.5 billion landmark waterfront community located in the heart of Manama, announced its plans this week to become the region's most connected urban community.

As part of its vision to establish and maintain a new standard of urban centre, Bahrain Bay is implementing a detailed design for amenities in its public spaces, which will include high-speed broadband connectivity, integration with cultural centres, a curated public arts programme, a community events calendar and a rigorous maintenance regime for the whole community.

Enabling Bahrain Bay's digital connectivity will be Alloptic's GEPON (Gigabit Ethernet Passive Optical Networks) next generation access network solution. Alloptic is a US-based global leader in the design and development of optical access networks and its solution will provide Bahrain Bay's complete communications, entertainment, security and building management systems infrastructure.

Residents and visitors will benefit from constant access to wireless broadband connectivity within Bahrain Bay, enabling use of the increasing range of business and consumer devices which offer services and communication tools through wireless Internet access.

Bahrain Bay's digital connectivity will also allow residents and visitors to access up to the minute information about cultural events within Bahrain Bay as well as being able to interact with their immediate environment, such as controlling the type of background music to be played in a specific public area.

Bahrain Bay CEO Bob Vincent said: "Bahrain Bay is committed to helping develop a commercially sound and ecologically viable approach to development. Our goal is to ensure that Bahrain Bay is a self-governing and self sustaining community, supporting an exceptional quality of life for residents, businesses, and visitors alike.

"In developing the Bahrain Bay community, we recognized early on the importance that digital connectivity plays in both residential life and creating enhanced productivity for businesses."
