Bahrain's Majid Al Sayed Bader Al Refai was honoured for 'Outstanding Contribution to the Industry' last week when winners of the international Islamic Business & Finance Awards were announced at a ceremony in Dubai.

Mr Al-Refai is the founder, managing director and chief executive officer of Unicorn Investment Bank. He is considered to be one of the pioneers of Islamic finance and has been an active proponent of the industry for over 20 years.

He has a wealth of experience in Islamic product development and has established several Islamic finance institutions throughout his career and has previously been recognised for his "Life and Continuing Contribution to Islamic Finance".

While international organisations and individuals managed to scoop three of the 17 prizes at the awards ceremony, it was the Gulf-based institutions that dominated the overall awards.

The top prize of 'Best Islamic Bank' went to Dubai Islamic Bank. In addition, individual prizes were awarded to exceptional finance professionals whose efforts have paved the way for successful Islamic finance.
