March 13¥ Award-winning Turkish Ney player Suleyman Erguner is set to perform at a Sufi concert to be held at the La Fontaine Contemporary Art Centre in Manama. He will be accompanied by his student and singer Murat Necipolu. Doors open at 7pm and concert begins at 8pm. Tickets are at BD 14 for concert only and BD20 inclusive of buffet dinner. Bahraini artist, Samia Engineer unveils her latest exhibition 'Circular Corners' at the Art Centre. Samia holds a PhD in Art Education from Pennsylvania State University and is an Assistant Professor in art education at the University of Bahrain. She has exhibited at many shows and exhibitions, the most recent being at UNESCO in Paris. The event will begin at 7pm and the exhibition will be held until March 21. For details contact 39900630.

¥ Storyteller Roger Jenkins will be performing at the Salman Culture Centre in Gudaibya from 11am to 12.30pm and 5pm to 6.30pm. In his work, he draws on his theatre training and his experience as a core member of The Madhatters Comedy Company. He is the founder of Story Caravan, president of the Storytelling Association in Singapore, as well as a performer (The See-Hear) storyteller for the deaf. ¥ Saxophonist Majeed Marhoun will perform at the Shaikh Ebrahim Centre from 8pm. Mr Marhoun was the first Bahraini to play the saxophone. He formed a band with some local friends in 1963 to play different kinds of music, including jazz, which further inspired him to learn music and the art of composing music. He has composed a Piano Sonata and many piano as well as solo flute pieces, some of which have been performed in Bahrain, UAE and Kuwait. Majeed has also composed two symphonies (No.1 in D minor and No.2 in flat major) and has written several articles and books on music, his most important work a reference book in nine volumes titled 'A Dictionary of Modern Music'. ¥ Editor and publisher of Arab daily, As-Safir (The Ambassador) in Beirut, Talal Salman, will give a lecture at the Al Zayed House at 8pm. He established the newspaper in 1974 with the slogan printed on the newspaper's masthead 'the voice of the voiceless'. He started his career as a journalist for Al Hawadeth Magazine in Lebanon in 1957. He is also a member of the Lebanese Press Association in Lebanon. For details contact 39900630.

¥ Wild Jujubes will run today and tomorrow at the Cultural Hall at 8pm. This Shanxi Huajin emotional dance drama is a tragic love story which takes place in the years between the end of the Qing Dynasty and the beginning of the Republic of China and tells the story of Wild Jujube, the heroine who falls in love with a young apprentice. The Dance Drama Wild Jujubes has amused theatre goers and moved audiences with its classical dance work in more than 300 performances around the world. It has also won one of ten National Stage Masterpieces between 2005 and 2006. For details contact 39900630.

Paco Pe–a - A Comp‡s will be performed at the Arad Fort from 8.30pm. A Comp‡s is a rhythmic tour through Arabic, Gypsy and Spanish folk traditions, tracking the roots of flamenco dance and music as they are passed from generation to generation blended together in an authentic display.
