Letters to the editor

Dear Stan,Recently at school we held a debate on the topic: 'modern students are inactive'.

The internet was given as an example to support this point of view.

Back in the days when our teachers, grandparents and parents were young there was no such thing, we were told.

Carrying out research for a school assignment would involve looking through books at the library. Today, information we need can be obtained by a click of a mouse.

Our teacher said he remembered the time when if he wanted to play soccer, he would grab a ball and go outside with his friends.

Nowadays, if young people want to play they get the Nintendo Wii out and invite their friends over!

However, the fact is that there are many young people taking part in sport and other activities at a young age and they prove very inspirational.

If not for reading Ismaeel Na'ar's 'Youth Talk' column, for example, I would not have been inspired to write letters to GulfWeekly!
