Fashion designer and wedding dressmaker Jun Garcia is busy putting the finishing touches on the gown of 'Reyna Elena' who will be the ceremonial figure in the upcoming annual celebration of Flores de Mayo (flowers of May) parade organised by the kingdom's Filipinos.

'Fiesta ng owwa' promises to be a fun-filled Friday afternoon at the poolside area of Delmon International Hotel in Manama that will have an array of traditional festivities, live entertainment, mouth-watering delicacies, games and authentic products.

The event, open to everyone, will culminate in the Flores De Mayo parade, one of the most colourful May time festivals of the Philippines, which depicts the finding of the Holy Cross by Queen Helena, mother of Constantine the Great.

The parade will showcase designs courtesy the Filipino Club Circle of Fashion Designers in Bahrain. Jun, who is the club's president, has designed and created the outfit that will be worn by the reigning Miss Philippines Bahrain, Jodell Nagnit, who will be representing the glorious Queen also referred to as 'Reyna Elena'.

The gown made with fine off-white organza takes the essence of Jasmine, the national flower of Philippines.

Jun said that he has made the gown keeping in mind the summer heat and comfort of the wearer. He said: "I wanted to create a white classic gown that's subdued. It's a flowing gown with layers and frills encrusted with crystals, pearls and bead work. Embroidered silver lace forms the bodice and a modified collar replaces the traditional cape to giving it a modern twist.

"My model, Jodell Nagnit, is tall and the concept matches her personality. She will wear heels to make her look taller and an improvised tiara that matches the bodice has been specially made for her hair."

Jun visualises a clean look for Jodell who will carry flowers and possibly a pearl earring to accentuate the look.

The event will be held this Friday at Delmon International Hotel in Manama from 1pm to 7pm.
