Billy Bob Thornton has congratulated his ex-wife Angelina Jolie on her pregnancy.
Thornton admits he was thrilled when the 'Tomb Raider' actress confirmed she is expecting twins with her long-term partner Brad Pitt last week.
He said: "I think she was always meant to be a mother in so many ways, I'm just so happy for her. I'm happy for the kids to have a mother like her and a father like him."
The 52-year-old actor also praised Jolie's charity work and humanitarian efforts.
He added to America's OK! magazine: "I'm astounded that somebody has that kind of passion and that much energy for something that actually does affect people and help people out."
Thornton and Jolie got married in 2000 after meeting on the set of Pushing Tin and split two years later.
Jolie, meanwhile, is shining up her reputation as Hollywood's most committed supermum.
The 32-year-old has announced she will take a year off after the birth of her twins. "I have been busy with other projects and the kids, but I am not planning to work at all over the next year or so," says Jolie.
Jolie and Pitt have three adopted children, Maddox, Pax, and Zahara, as well as a biological daughter, Shiloh.
Jolie has promoted humanitarian causes throughout the world, and is noted for her work with refugees through UNHCR.
