This week I had the good fortune to meet two truly inspirational young Bahraini men. Faisal Khalifa Al Ali and Saeed Ahmed Jafaar Ali, students from the University of Bahrain's College of Engineering came along to the Rotary Club of Manama to help us celebrate National Day.
We had invited them to talk to us about environmental concerns in Bahrain, and present to us their project that won first prize in the Inter College Environmental Public Speaking Competition 2008 organised by the Emirates Environmental Group ( EEG).
Their slick, professional PowerPoint presentation and impressive delivery skills really galvanised their audience into thinking about the damage that discarded plastic bags do to our precious marine life.
But the most powerful message of all that we received at this special lunch was that Bahrain has a rich future ahead if other young Bahrainis follow the example of these two articulate, intelligent, and charismatic young men.
Several local captains of industry were so impressed they expressed their pride and willingness to employ graduates of the University of Bahrain if they were of a similar calibre to Faisal and Saeed.
Justification, if any were needed, that one of the kingdom's most important investments is in education and human resources.
Bravo Faisal, Saeed and your two research colleagues Khalid Al Rumaihi and Mohammed Al Saddeh.
