A NEWLY-DEVISED 'chef's special menu' featuring authentic north Indian dishes has been unveiled at fine-dining restaurant Lanterns in Budaiya.

Restaurant manager Anwar Hussain said: "The rich menu consists of a list of starters, barbeque and curries. We thought of changing our existing menu slightly to add certain well known dishes of India. It is proving very popular with our customers... everyone's looking for something new and this menu offers it."

Created by Chef Kundan Singh it features favourites such as colour chicken seekh kababs, 'embassy' chicken curry, chicken stuffed drumsticks, prawn pickle, Lahori aloo or potato, paneer or cottage cheese with sesame seeds, paneer tikki and chicken spring rolls.

Chef Kundan, 42, from Budaiya, has been with the outlet for the past 14 years and comes to the island with cooking experience spanning 16 years.

Lanterns is a 22-year-old establishment featuring a traditional village setting with a nostalgic ambience, offering authentic cuisine from various parts of India alongside a range of well-known continental dishes.

The outlet is most renowned for its Friday and Saturday lunch and Monday dinner buffet spreads. It includes 20 salads, 15 main courses, two soups, seven starters and seven desserts.

Guests can also choose their own stir fry with options of beef, chicken, fish and vegetables in Mongolian, Chinese and Indian styles alongside a barbeque section.

Rate for the buffet is BD5.9 plus service charges. Timings are noon to 3pm on weekends and 7pm to midnight on Mondays.
