THANK you for your detailed report on Glanders in last week's issue which gave clear and comprehensive information about the disease which is really worrying people who love horses in Bahrain.
My daughter has been unable to attend riding lessons as her stables has banned any children from under the age of 12 as a precaution and I hope that this will be lifted soon providing everyone is confident the matter is under control.
However, with all the bans on the movement of horses between stables and competitions being stopped I cannot help but be concerned about the number of local riders who appear to be unaware, or ignorant, of the situation.
Is it OK to ride around the kingdom or not? I spotted horses being ridden quite openly on the pavement on Buidaiya Highway yesterday.
Could this possibly spread the bacterial disease? And, if so, what action will be taken by the authorities to stop them?
Horse loving parent,
Saar.

IT'S hard to believe that you can snap up a new property for BD40,000 as reported in last week's Property Weekly section.
I feel sorry for all those expats who bought at the top of the market and find their properties unfinished ... but it's good news for all those that you aptly suggest now want to buy into the Bahrain dream.
Pricing reality at last!
But what about rental costs, when are they going to start coming down?
The rent for my villa went up again this year, despite the fact there are two empty ones on the compound.
I've looked around and the prices still appear incredibly high in what must be a depressed market.
Counting the fils,
Manama.
