The Alliance Francaise Bahrain CinŽ-club is showing the movie A l'attaque! directed by Robert GuŽdiguian and starring Ariane Ascaride and Jean-Pierre Darroussin. If you're looking for a summer-weight film, A l'attaque! may be it: It's light but not frivolous, idiosyncratic though not way out, good-humoured yet serious at heart, and is about an extended family of one-time Italian immigrants who run a little garage repairing trucks whilst working in poor conditions. The Karnataka Social Club is holding its annual July Rose contest for ladies at 8.30pm at the Papillion restaurant auditorium, Manama. The mini beauty pageant will see contestants take part in a mini catwalk before judges announce the winner; accompanied by music ranging from hip-hop to contemporary chart hits by a local DJ. Al Riwaq Art Space will be hosting an event to celebrate the entry into force of the Convention on Cluster Munitions in collaboration with The Cluster Munitions Coalition (CMC), as a way to express its full support and solidarity to such a cause, from 8pm to 9pm at Osama Bin Zaid Avenue, Adliya. The event, which is free and open to the public, will comprise a photo exhibition; a drums performance by the Bahrain Lovers Band as well as feature a short film on the topic. The aim of the event is to raise awareness amongst the public of the terrible effects of cluster munitions, the large weapons which have killed and injured thousands of civilians during the last 40 years and continue to do so today.
