The Mera Bharat Mahaan competition, otherwise known as a patriotic song contest being held to mark India's Independence Day is being held by the Kasaragod District Pravasi Association-Bahrain (KDPA) at 6.30pm at the Priyadarshini Hall in the South Park restaurant in Manama on August 6. With Al Hilal Hospital and Al Ansu Trading as the event's main sponsors; registration for the competition is free to all Indian expatriate clubs, organisations and individuals, but must be before the July 30 deadline. The songs, assessed by a panel of judges, can be in any Indian language and singers have the option of being accompanied by a three-piece live orchestra. The Grand Finale of Plugged In - the B Guitar Master contest will take place at the Z Club on August 6, Juffair, with nine weekly winners all competing for the grand prize. Organised by BMMI and the Pars International Hotel's Z Club, the winner will take home $1,000 (BD378), the first runner-up $500 (BD189) and second runner-up $300 (BD113.4) and gift vouchers. The Centrepoint Desert Symphony will take place on the first day of Eid in September at the Indian School grounds, Isa Town. The fundraiser will feature a headline performance by Sri Lankan choreographer Chandana Wickramasinghe's Sri Lankan Dancers Guild, as well as award winning Indian pop music diva Usha Uthup, Tamil playback singer Mano, vocalist Anwar Sadath and finalists from the Asianet reality show Idea Star Singer Hisham Abdulwahab and Lekshmi Jayan. Alliance Francaise Bahrain is hosting the work of GrŽgory Lasserre and Ana•s van den Ancxt at an interactive art exhibition named 'Akousmaflore & Ombres' that will remain open until October 31 in Isa Town. The artists utilise interactive art, music and architecture in order to create evolutionary and interactive artwork. In addition to this the Alliance Francaise Bahrain CinŽ-club will be starting again in September and have several film showings, including the film Lumumba on September 16 and 23, and Bamako on September 30. The Batelco Melodic Meet will be held on September 24 at the Indian School grounds in Isa Town. Organised by the Bahrain Disabled Sports Federation (BDSF) in association with the Kerala Arts and Cultural Association (KACA), the event will feature performances by vocalists Mohammad Aslam, Faride and Sindhu Menon, mimicry specialists Baiju Jose and Babu Jose and film star Monica from India. Tickets cost BD1 and can be doubled up for raffle tickets to win a Mitsubishi Lancer and 20 other prizes.
