Boardwalk Emipre, starring Steve Buscemi, recreates the glitter and decadence of Atlantic City (AC) in its pre-Depression heyday. Led by the charismatic town Treasurer Nucky Thompson, (played by Buscemi) the kingpins of AC seize the unique opportunities that Prohibition creates to carve out a profitable niche in contraband alcohol, teaming up with rumrunners across the Atlantic seaboard to buy bootleg alcohol at a low price - and sell it for huge profits.
But before long, as money pours in from thirsty customers and greedy third-party dealers, Nucky and his minions find themselves forced to defend their turf against jealous mobsters ... with deadly consequences. In addition, the long arm of the law - personified by a relentless federal agent - casts al shadow on the glamour that Nucky enjoys.
