THE love of motor sport was clearly evident as race fans gathered in front of a big screen at the Al Haddad Motors showroom in Isa Town on Sunday to watch the Turkish Grand Prix.

The Mercedes dealers put on the show and backed GulfWeekly's front page community campaign urging Formula One bosses to reschedule the big race in Bahrain for later this year.

Mercedes-Benz marketing manager Imran Ali, pictured right, said: "We fully support GulfWeekly's petition to Bernie and the FIA and, fingers crossed, it will help the powers that be to make the right decision.

"We always look forward to F1, we want it, we need it, we're ready for it and we hope that Bernie will let us have it here in Bahrain this season. F1 has helped bring our tiny kingdom on to the world stage and we can't let this opportunity slip from our hands."

Last year racing legend Michael Schumacher, the 42-year-old German, seven times world champion, appeared at the showroom in Isa Town to meet customers and fans on his return to F1,which is all part of the sport reaching out to the grassroots of its following.
