ARSENAL Yellow’s winning streak continues and the players have one hand on the GulfWeekly Premiership Trophy after narrowly defeating recent knockout cup champions and league challengers Joga Bonito 3-2.

In the first half the young Arsenal Yellow side started strongly with silky passing between midfielder Stephanie Le Vesconte and striker Tamara Kawash, but the fluent combination came unstuck by some breath-taking counter-attacking from their opponents.

Goalkeeper Darya Vyshegordoskaya was soundly beaten by quick breaks by Joga Bonito and great finishes by captain Alaa Al Darazi and striker Sara Al Aali which sent the side into a comfortable 2-0 lead.

Arsenal Yellow looked down and out until Deena Rahman, who has regularly captured the headlines with her hat trick hero goal scoring feats, managed to pull one back when a long range free kick was firmly slotted into the back of the net. She then equalised with a deft left foot strike under the keeper.

In the second half, both teams battled hard and Joga came close to retaking the lead until Vyshegordoskaya pulled off a tremendous save.

Yellow were then awarded a free kick on the edge of the area. With all of the Joga side on the line Rahman still managed to find a gap and secured yet another triple triumph.

Yellow held on for victory with a solid display from midfielder Dalal Al Ansari and defender Georgia Moulder. Heartbroken Joga Bonito captain Al Darazi said: “The game was tough. Both teams played well but our team was just unlucky. We gave it our best shot and sometimes you don’t get the points you feel that your hard play deserves.”

Currently Arsenal Yellow sit proudly on top of the Arsenal Soccer School Bahrain Ladies League with 15 points followed by Joga Bonito on 12 with nine points still to play for.

In the other fixture Desert Divas played St Christopher’s Intermediate and secured a 3-1 victory. With two goals from forward Amanda Hadgiannis and one from Janet Kellagher.  St Christopher’s striker Rawan Alsaegh scored the consolation.

This week’s Arsenal Yellow take on Arsenal Red and St Christopher’s Intermediate welcome Joga Bonito at the Batelco Sports Ground in Hamala.
