Just the other day somebody had the temerity to ask me how to spell the word NIGH – which is strange considering I wouldn’t normally associate a DJ with spellchecking but I did offer the correct spelling and then promptly Googled the word to see the correct definition.
Since that day it has been my mission to try and squeeze the little gem of a word into everyday conversation without the other party knowing.
And, that got me thinking about songs that have unusual words in the title, particularly words which wouldn’t normally be used – certainly by me – when having a chat with friends or relatives. I suppose the real challenge is to see if they could be used in a phone conversation or a meeting, and then smile to yourself in recognition of a job well done.
So let’s have fun with some random song titles then, and see how many you can use during your normal day: INXS – Mediate Sheena Easton – Strut Def Leopard – Hysteria Steve Miller Band – Abracadabra Michael Sembello – Maniac Animotion – Obsession Swing Out Sister – Breakout Madonna – Vogue Guru Josh – Infinity The Boo Radleys – Kaleidoscope Green Day – Basketcase
Take this list into work and tick off all the successful attempts, and ask yourself this – why is abbreviation such a long word?
