The new Arsenal Soccer School Bahrain Ladies League kicked off the season with three excellent high scoring games at Batelco’s sporting arena in Hamala with seven teams aiming to secure the GulfWeekly Premiership Trophy.
St Christopher’s Seniors’ got off to a good start with a 6-1 victory over Arsenal Red. The school’s midfielders Nichanan Kensonpat and Rebecca Sharrock bagged a brace apiece with strikers Farah Alanzourti and Millie Gallagher also getting on the score sheet. Reema Al Qassab scored Arsenal’s consolation goal.
St Christopher’s Intermediate, however, came unstuck against last season’s Challenge Cup holders Joga Bonito 5-1. Strikers Sara Al Aali, Hanan Al Ghasra and Eman Ramadan notched a goal apiece and captain Alaa Al Durazi notched a double. Striker Rawan Alsaegh scored the only goal for the St Chris juniors.
Last year’s champions Arsenal Blue (formally known as Arsenal Yellow) carried on where they left off with an impressive 10-1 win against the Eastern Flames.
Blue’s midfield ace Janet Kelleghar bagged four goals, while Gulf Air poster girl Rama Salem hit a hat-trick. Blue’s striker Samantha Turner also notched a brace and midfielder Phoebe Licence added to the tally. Centre forward Ainsely Gibson put Eastern Flames on the scoresheet with a consolation strike.
This week St Chris Seniors will take on Joga Bonito so fans should be in for a thrilling encounter.
The U16 Bahrain National team will make their debut playing Arsenal Red. St Chris Intermediate, currently second place in the table, will play Eastern Flames.
