Gulf Weekly Hot scores at Awali club

The Lucite International stableford competition was held at Awali Golf Club on Friday in severely hot and humid conditions.

On a day when a number of players were unable to complete the full 18 holes due to the adverse weather conditions, there were are remarkable number of fantastic scores.

There was a five-way tie for the lead on 39 points but Mohammed Rashid, who had an excellent back nine of 23 points, won on count back.

Petri Kettunnen, who went out of bounds with his very first shot of the day, responded very strongly to finish on the same score, but with a back nine of ‘only’ 21 points!

Graham Hurdon, Anil Nair and Ahmed Al Noaimi were the other unfortunate players who finished so close, but also losing out on the count back rule.

Jeffrey Barrett, Clive Bailey and Andy ‘Ace’ McAplpine were also in the prizes when they all finished on a superb score of 38 points.

In the side contests, Nicky Bailey had won the ladies longest drive on the seventh hole and Ian Jennings won the gents closest the pin on the sixth.

One particular junior in the club, who has shown vast improvement over the past three months, continued his good form this season. Christian Trzebinski battled the conditions to shoot a very credible 33 points. His round included an impressive birdie on the fourth hole. Keep up the good work!

Awali Golf Club would like to thank Lucite International for its continued sponsorship of a fantastic event. The club now looks forward to the Pan Gulf competition on October 14 before the Bahrain Men’s Open the following week.

Now that the season is well and truly under way, it is great to see the club filling up again and more and more people coming for golf coaching. In particular, it is pleasing to see an increase in the amount of junior golfers getting involved in the game.
