The eagerly-awaited sequel to 2010s Kick-Ass just began filming and director Jeff Wadlow and creator Mark Millar have already dropped strong hints that Jim Carrey may be sporting spandex to join the cast of unlikely superheroes.

According to Deadline.com, the 50-year-old actor had been approached to play The Colonel in Kick Ass 2: Balls to the Wall, who is described as a character who helps to galvanise the film’s motley crew of superheroes and fight evil.

However, nothing has been confirmed.

Wadlow recently took to the social networking site Twitter, stating: “we officially have our Colonel. Alrighty f’n then!” A catchphrase made popular by Carrey’s Ace Ventura.

When cast member Christopher Mintz-Plasse asked about The Colonel, Kick-Ass creator Millar responded and said: “Clue: he lives with 200 raccoons and parrots, owns the mask of Loki and was named by Spielberg as a genius.”

Aaron Johnson will return as Kick-Ass, the protagonist of the film, while co-stars Mintz-Plasse, Chloe Moretz and Nicolas Cage will also reprise their roles from the first film. Scrubs actor Donald Faison and Super Mario Bros star John Leguizamo have also joined the cast for the sequel.

Kick Ass 2: Balls to the Wall is scheduled to be released on June 28, 2013, in the US.
