Fans of Drive are waiting to see Ryan Gosling slip back into the scorpion jacket for a follow-up to last year’s cult classic … but they may not need to wait much longer.

When word got out that James Sallis, the writer of the book that the movie is based on, had a sequel entitled Driven, fans thought that it was an opportunity to reunite filmmaker Nicolas Winding Refn with Gosling once again.

However, it looks like that may not happen … at least not in the way fans were hoping.

The Danish director has suggested that a sequel is not in the works but that the character in the film may return in another one of his movies.

“A sequel is never going to happen,” said Refn. “But the character of the Driver might return in another film. We’re playing with that idea. We’ll see what happens.”

The actor-director duo recently made Only God Forgives, a gangster flick set in Thailand, that has yet to premiere outside of a sizzle reel at Cannes, and they have made plans for other potential collaborations.

In the meantime, Gosling will be busy with his own directorial effort, How to Catch a Monster, featuring his Drive co-star Christina Hendricks.
