Laughter makes the world go round and, at the Regency last week, the world was spinning off its axis thanks to three supremely funny comedians.

Mark Dolan, Michael Fabbri and Mitch Benn are certainly not surgeons but they all had the crowd in stitches with their routines, all delivered with confidence and style.

The event’s host, Dolan, was a personal favourite of mine thanks to his stint on UK cult classic sketch show Balls of Steel. His hilarious self-deprecating style resonated with the audience, particularly with a musician in the front row who suddenly found himself part of the act.

Next up was Fabbri, whose act started slow but then erupted into what can only be described as comedy gold as he recanted stories about his remedial school class, and trying to understand the subtle nuances of female anatomy.

Fabbri’s ability to weave an intricate web of vivid imagery paid off and my girlfriend was so impressed with his gags that I think she snorted at one point ... sorry Lay, but you did!

Rounding off the evening with impeccable style and an impressive vocal range was Benn, a chap I’ve seen perform in London many years ago. He’s dropped a lot of weight since then but has lost none of his uncanny ability to describe situations in song.

Armed with nothing more than a guitar and his sardonic wit ... and a penchant for sci-fi movie references, he closed the show in faultless fashion.

I almost died when he performed his novel rendition of a Eurovision Song Contest entry which laid waste to every country that participates in the annual ‘talent’ event.

A thoroughly enjoyable evening was had by all and I’m looking forward to Punchline’s next group of professional joke slingers making their way to the kingdom on February 14.
