British School of Bahrain (BSB) students continue to attempt to make a difference in the world.
Five Year 9 students – Hassan Moosawi, Yousif Zowayed, Abdul Hameed Al Khaja and Omar Janahi – organised a charity football tournament to raise funds for the children affected by the Syrian crisis.
Approximately 90 Year 8 and Year 9 BSB students participated in the tournament. Peter Grohmann, from UNICEF, met with the students and spoke about the work of the UN in Syria and the effects of war on the younger population.
Mr Grohmann was presented with a cheque for BD115 and thanked all the students and teachers involved in the event for their efforts.

I have received my competition prize Lambda Golf shoes (GolfWeekly page contest) and they are gorgeous! Thankfully, they are also a very good fit as I was afraid they’d be too narrow for my hobbit feet!
A good partnership for years to come, I hope!

Thank you for your coverage of the Ahmed Zayani and Sons’ Jeep Grand Cherokee launch in last week’s edition of GulfWeekly.
While I thank you for the efforts, the caption mentions that the showroom is in Sitra but our showroom is actually located in Zinj on Shaikh Salman Highway. Godwin D’Cruz,
Fasting and contemplation during Ramadan should be respected by everyone, even if they are not Muslims themselves . The GCC countries, as Islamic states, provide the right environment for their people to fast – food is not generally served during the day for example.
This all has implications for employers, local or global, operating in the GCC – but they don’t need to be negative. It makes it even more important for leaders (and HR) to take the opportunity to fully engage their teams.
Ramadan only happens once a year but studies have shown that more time spent relaxing, recuperating and with the family leads to happier and more efficient workers. Generally such an enlightened approach rewards employers with better and more productive staff all-year-round.
