St Christopher’s School will host the second British Schools in the Middle East (BSME) Debating Tournament this weekend.

It will compete against the British Overseas School, Karachi, Pakistan, The British School of Muscat, last year’s winners Doha College, The British School, Alexandria, Egypt, Kuwait National English School, Dhahran British Grammar School, Sherborne School, Qatar, and the British School of Kuwait.
 
The tournament, which takes place tomorrow, Friday and Saturday, has two principal objectives: firstly, to raise the profile of competitive debating in the region; and secondly, to help students prepare for other public speaking events such as the World Schools Debating Championships.

More than 100 pupils will be competing in two age category contests, Years 9 & 10 (ages 13 and 14) and Years 11, 12 & 13 (15 to 18). Some motions will be prepared and others will be impromptu. Topics up for debate include ‘India’s future is more promising than China’s’ and ‘drone warfare should be abandoned’.

Master the art of break-dancing at the Ballare School of Performing Arts. Classes run in two batches, for seven to nine years and ages 10 and above.  For details, call 17300021.
