Laugh and the world laughs with you, so the saying goes, and if that’s the case the world was giggling hysterically after the latest Chuckle Club show.

Dana Alexander was the first to grace the stage and did a great job warming up the crowd. She has a strong presence and a deliciously tongue-in-cheek take on racial profiling. It’s a tricky subject that is hard to make light of, but she managed it with aplomb and style.

Her unique take on living in the UK as a Canadian was brilliant and so is her impression of a London accent; I almost believed she was local.

Next up was Mark Stephenson, a comedian with a deadpan style that was perhaps over the heads of some members of the crowd. His main theme was contentment, not being happy or sad, just sitting on the fence … which unfortunately is where the audience were with his act. Thankfully, in the middle of his set he had a great bit about setting himself on fire that had me in stiches.

Rounding of the night was Carey Marx who can best be described in one word, wow! He is incredibly offensive, vulgar and politically incorrect, basically, my kind of guy. Although his material can be shocking, I got the impression nothing he says is meant with malice, he’s simply drawing your attention to the bigger picture.

In-between the delightfully dark barbs he had a fantastic gag about becoming the ‘old man’ in his relationship prematurely. He painted a vivid picture of being at home lying useless, while his wife goes out partying with her young friends then when she comes home he insinuates she will probably dress him up as Charlie Chaplin ... trust me, it’s all in the way he tells it.

Once again, another superb evening from Punchline Media, who have big things in store in the not too distant future … watch this space!
