Gulf Weekly New card is fuelled by innovation

Sadeem, a personalised smart card for the payment of fuel, launched last year by Bapco, is growing in popularity in the kingdom.

More than 33,000 cards have so far been issued and Sadeem is currently accepted at 16 Bapco service stations with more stations being added to the list every month.

Bapco expects to cover all fuel stations in Bahrain with the Sadeem service by the middle of next year.

The card is available in two formats; prepaid and credit basis. The prepaid is available to any individual or organisation and can be applied for instantly. The card is reusable and has to be topped-up with money prior to usage.

The credit-based card is recommended mostly for organisations and businesses. Once the credit facility is approved, cards can be issued and used like a regular credit card subject to limits set by the user. All cards are equipped with a smart chip that records use and consumption.

The card can be customised to allow only Mumtaz, Jayyid or Diesel or a combination of either. It can control consumption with the usage of PINs, or registering the vehicle number inside the chip so that it can only be used to fuel a certain vehicle.

It also allows the manual capture of kilometre reading allowing companies to monitor fuel usage. Daily, weekly or monthly usage limits can be requested.
