CELEBRATED chef Gilles Choukroun will be calling into the Sofitel Bahrain Zallaq Thalassa Sea & Spa on his first visit to the region next month with a four-day stint at La Mer restaurant.

Parisian-born Chef Gilles will be sharing his modern and inventive take on French cuisine from November 5 giving food aficionados the chance to experience Michelin-star gastronomy.

Drawing inspiration from North African roots from his father’s side, Chef Gilles enjoys fusing different fare in order to make what he calls his ‘signature cuisine’.

Chef Gilles has his own restaurant in France called MBC which he has owned for five years. “I wanted a very urban restaurant,” he said. “The walls are fully covered with work created by some of my closest friends who are graffiti artists. I wanted a restaurant in agreement with myself and the uniqueness I look forward to sharing with the rest of the world.”

With a multitude of local produce available, chef Gilles is looking forward to incorporating local products into the custom-made menu he is preparing for fine dining enthusiasts in the kingdom.

“I have a lot in store for the foodies of the region,” he said. “I want them to discover my kitchen and my signature cuisine. It’s important to know the evolution of French cuisine throughout the world and in recent years it has enjoyed much advancement.”
