Smartphone users seem to be smarter

Here’s something none of us expected (especially our parents). Our smartphones make us smarter… supposedly. Take that, older generation that thinks we’re turning into self-absorbed robots with short attention spans! Wait, what was my point? Hold on, I’ll just Google it.

Recently, a British betting company put forward a test of wits to 2,000 people in the UK. This test consisted of various timed brain-teasers to examine just how sharp you really are. Of course, before taking the test they all had to state whether or not they had a smartphone, and if they did, they had to state the brand of said phone.

So, who came in first place (drumroll)? Apple users, who were five seconds faster than others, on average. Right, as if their heads weren’t big enough? Now, before you gather the pitchforks and light the torches, that barely veiled insult has scientific merit. Another study, this time done by a mobile phone company, of 2,000 more people, found that iPhone users are vainer; because, when asked, they tend to rate themselves as being of above average attractiveness, spend the most on grooming, and believe their bosses rate them ‘extremely highly’.

So what does your phone say about you? Well, although Blackberry users seem to be the slowest smartphone users in wit, they are the biggest earners and have the most long-term relationships.  Android-users, such as myself, are dual second for wit with Google Nexus users. Yet, we Android-users are proven to be the most creative, most cultured and most polite; however, we also watch the most TV and drink the most. I really don’t think we have a negative side.

So, how does this prove that smartphone users are smarter? Well; those who stated that they did not have a smartphone did, on average, worse in wits than those who did.
